2019 Ratings for Candidates for State Supreme Court in the Third and Fourth Judicial Districts
CDWBA’s Committee on the Judiciary is tasked with evaluating and rating candidates for judicial office throughout the Capital Region. The Committee’s articulated objective is elevating the quality of the judiciary by approving for election to judicial office only those individuals who have demonstrated excellence in judicial criteria, including integrity, experience, professional competence, independence, judgment, temperament and intellect. The Committee’s work is in furtherance of CDWBA’s Mission of promoting the fair and impartial administration of justice and educating the general public about the legal system.
Following the Committee’s review of the candidates’ application materials and in-person interviews, the Committee will publicly share its ratings in advance of the November 2019 Election. Candidates will be rated as either “Approved” or “Not Approved” for the judicial office which they seek, and Approved candidates are also eligible for the additional rating of “Commended,” provided that the candidate has demonstrated an outstanding sensitivity and dedication to issues affecting women in the legal profession and in society generally.
For the 2019 election season, the Committee will ONLY be evaluating candidates for election to State Supreme Court in the Third and Fourth Judicial Districts.
Candidates seeking the Committee’s evaluation and rating must submit application materials via email to email@example.com no later than the close of business on Monday, September 23, 2019. Applications for judicial rating consist of a completed Uniform Judicial Questionnaire set forth below, along with an executed release consenting to the divulgence to the Committee of any materials relating to the making, investigation and determination of complaints made against the candidate before an Attorney Grievance Committee or the Commission on Judicial Conduct. Candidates who are current or former Judges must submit both such releases. All information obtained from the candidates in connection with the Committee’s work will be maintained as strictly confidential.
Candidates seeking evaluation and rating from the Committee are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the Committee’s governing Rules and Procedures set forth below, and a roster of current Committee membership is likewise set forth below.
