Chopin/Robbins Dances at a Gathering
Chopin/Robbins The Concert
A quintessential piano ballet, Dances at a Gathering premiered in 1969, heralding Jerome Robbins’ return to New York City Ballet after a 13-year absence. Set to 18 of Chopin’s piano pieces, the work is an hour in length with a cast or ten dancers. Chopin’s mazurkas, waltzes, and études, groundbreaking at the time of’ their composition, are rooted in the Slavic character of his Polish homeland, yet still convey the elegance of Paris, where they were created.
In stark juxtaposition, Robbins’ other Chopin scored ballet, The Concert, is a light-hearted comedic piece featuring a cast of quirky characters at a piano recital.
Tickets are $38 per person — This is a Great Discount!
